Only Through The Pain

I've been wondering this for a long time I don't know if Robb, Pete, chris, or anyone else who has some expierence could answer this question. Does a 12 string guitar differ a lot from a 6 string. I recently noticed that on the "Mourning" video for Tantric the guitarist is using a twelve string. I don't know if it was for looks or what. I have always played a Six String, but I have always wondered if the amount of strings would make a huge difference. I also heard somewhere that Simon used a 7 string for headstrong. So im just merely curious if anyone has ever picked one up and what the expierence was like compared to a 6 string.

Tantric used a 12-string guitar to brighten up the song a bit than using a 6-string. That's the reason why performers uses 12-strings other than a 6-string

well you play a twelve string like you would a six string except on a twelve the strings are like paired up so that one is one octave higher than the other, so the standard tuning for a twelve string is EEAADDGGBBee
and they set it up like that so it sounds more full i guess cause you're playing everything on two octaves at the same time. On the tweleve string the paired strings are close together so you can hold down both strings at once. I've actually played my first twelve string a couple days ago and it sounded really cool with both octaves playing at the same time but yea the extra strings are just for a certain sound. A 7 string just has the extra bass string so standard tuning for that is i think BEADGBe. Hope i answered your questions

Pedals can do a lot of different things. My uncle has one that changes his guitar into a grand piano, haha. It's awesome.

twelve strings are basically cord machines, they totally brighten up any cord you play and make it sound "pretty" The bassist for korn plays a 15 string bass(rarely) and he just puts out slap combos on it

the 12 string is basically a 6 sting with each string doubled for a chorusy type sound. Not very good for bending strings but great from open chord strumming and single note melodies. The 7 string is like the 6 string but with a low "B" note. I only use 6 strings and tune them differently. i.e. EADGBE, CFBbEbGC, BEADF#B. Hope this helps.
